Darey is a multiple award-winning and Multi-Platinum selling urban R&B singer, musician, songwriter, music producer and entrepreneur. Darey is also the son of the legendary African Jazz Musician and entertainer Art Alade.
For more than fifteen years, the multi-talented act, born Dare (pronounced Da-ray) Art Alade has been a disc jockey, TV presenter, Master of Ceremonies, entertainment consultant, voice over artist, performing/recording artist, entrepreneur and philanthropist. In his college years, he shuttled between being a presenter on 99.9 Cool FM, and being a student at the University of Lagos where he obtained a degree in Music. He also studied music theory, voice and classical piano at the Music Society of Nigeria (MUSON). His time at Cool FM presented him the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge of Radio presentation, production and marketing. Having conquered Radio, Darey set his eyes on Television, and soon became a regular on-screen personality in the hit African entertainment variety show ‘Y’hello.’
A huge break came in 2004, during the first ever African edition of the internationally renowned TV series Project Fame, in which Darey participated as a contestant, emerged third and had the opportunity to perform in front of over 100 million TV viewers, as well as signing a recording deal with Sony BMG Africa.
In 2006, he released his debut Album From Me 2 U on Storm Records and early 2009; he dropped his second album, called unDAREYted, on his newly founded Record Label, Soul Muzik. This album produced the biggest R&B song in Africa that year titled Not The Girl.
The buzz from his second album caught the attention of the African American Music business legend Dick Griffey, who is credited with discovering and influencing the music careers of artists such as Shalamar, The Whispers, Babyface, L.A. Reid and Dr Dre. Dick Griffey, offered to Produce Darey’s third album, but unfortunately passed away before the project was completed.
In 2010, apart from completing his third studio album release, Darey was busy performing at major shows across the World. The ever-touring musician graced stages at sold out events across Africa, including a special concert with R & B powerhouse R Kelly in South Africa and the This Day Peace Concert Tour in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. On request of the President of Nigeria, he was invited to perform a special set at the presidential villa in an exclusive dinner to commemorate the Country’s 50th independence Anniversary. At the event, which was broadcast live to over 200 million viewers across the world, he performed a medley of 50 songs with his 15-piece band, to a room filled with African Presidents and leaders.
In 2011, Darey released his Twin albums, Double Dare, on his Soul Muzik imprint and followed this up with smash hit singles and music videos for Sisi Eko Remix ft. Flavour and Asiko ft. South African group Jozi and Nigeria’s Ice Prince.
In 2013 Darey and his Soul Muzik team produced Nigeria’s biggest and best Love concert to date (according to rave reviews) titled Love Like A Movie which had a special red carpet section hosted by Kim Kardashian as well as the highly successful release of the music video to his monster track, “Asiko” featuring Jozi and Ice Prince.
In May 2013 Darey released a new single, Special Fever, produced by internationally acclaimed producer, Harmony who is known to have produced international award winning hit songs for Chris Brown, Kelly Rowland, Maroon5, Mary J Blige among many others.
Special Fever is a unique R&B/Highlife track, which describes the art of love as Darey pours out his heart to a young woman who he says gives him a special kind of fever.
Whether performing alongside the world’s finest superstars such as Beyonce, Jay Z, Kelly Rowland, Snoop Dogg, John Legend, Lionel Richie, Sean Paul, Rihanna, Usher, Akon and Shakira; or hosting events attended by World leaders and top dignitaries, such as past U.S Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, one thing is certain; Darey is a consummate perfectionist and is not stopping yet in conquering the world, one note at a time.
Besides his accomplishments as an entertainer, Darey is a philanthropist. He continues to support several causes close to his heart including Cancer charities, Community and sports development. He also set up the Art Foundation, whose main objective is to keep music education alive for kids in primary and secondary schools in Africa as a way to empower African Youth.
When Darey is not in the studio recording ground breaking music, or turning up concert stages, he can be found playing basketball, Mixing Drinks, or playing video games.
